CHG’s Remote Condition Monitoring System, Asset Monitor, was first deployed on the UK rail network in 2008 as part of the West Coast Mainline Very High Frequency Timetable introduction. Developed in collaboration with Network Rail’s asset and process experts and as part of an overall asset performance improvement programme, the system went live in late 2008 and has been in operation across the UK rail network continually since.
Developed using the Agile methodology - to incrementally deliver functionality to support continuous improvement and machine-learning - CHG Group developed the primary product in 5 stages; covering extendable platform, protocols and asset interface, automated of data collection and dashboarding, automated data dissemination and efficient data collection and storage. CHG’s collaborative and agile development process created the most cost-effective solution for both capital and operational expenditure whilst providing the precise functionality at the right time for Network Rail to enhance asset performance.
Following introduction and primary development the system has been subsequently improved in conjunction with users and asset experts to enhance functionality across a broad spectrum. Using an innovative contracting strategy, CHG and NR have been able to continue their collaboration to open the system up to new assets, greater functionality and continual improvement, providing best-in-class performance at unbeatable cost, quality and cycle-times.
